Job Description
Estimator, Aberdeen
Our client is continually growing as an internationally recognized leader in fabricated steel and pipe work for the offshore oil & gas sector, alongside expansion within the marine and renewable industries supporting the energy transition in the UK and worldwide.
They are looking for an Estimator / Buyer with 10 years’ experience, ideally within Fabrication.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
o Prepare pricing estimates, including developing a take-off of all material and labour required for the project. This take-off will be combined with outside vendor pricing to produce a complete project cost estimate
o Work with outside vendors to request and receive project-specific pricing to meet firm deadlines
o Coordinate with operations and outside vendors on how the job is to be built in both our shop and in the field
o Coordinate with the customer to help ensure we are providing a complete package with a thorough understanding of the project schedule and project-specific requirements.
o Assisting the management team with other duties when required.
Physical Requirements:
o Work will be performed in an indoor office environment and occasionally visits to sites. Position requires long durations committed to independent reading and computation. Strong concentration skills necessary.
Required Skills:
o An understanding of structural steel & pipe-work fabrication and erection practices including knowledge of structural shapes and general industry terminology
o Ability to read and interpret construction documents including design drawings and specification documents
o Understanding of material grades and standards.
o Understanding of welding processes & standards.
o Understanding of subcontracted services such as, NDT, coating & machining, and the associated standards & specifications.
o Microsoft software applications including MS Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
o Emphasis on the ability to manipulate Excel spreadsheets
o Experience with PDF review/editing software
o Strong verbal and written communication skills
o Ability to read and interpret technical and legal documents
o Strong math and geometry skills
o Ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting stringent deadlines
o Must be detail-oriented and have the ability to focus on given tasks
Education Requirement:
o Minimum – Trade qualification fabrication / welding.
